Tina Weymouth and Grandmaster Flash, Back in the Day

Here’s a tribute to Old School Hip Hop! To all you older folks out there who remember listening to this in years past, here’s to you! For all you young’ns who may not understand the culture of hip hop, do not worry….

An Introduction to Old School

Hip Hop started in NYC back in the 60′s, evolving out of the imported (from Jamaica) practice of DJ’s incorporating a second turntable into their sets to make songs last longer. From this practice evolved others like sampling the melodies of some songs to overlay on the percussion of other songs. Once someone started rhyming on top of the music, the MC was born.

More Old School Resources

To catch a richer glimpse, check out the movie Wild Style, a kind of Hip Hop documentary, made while the scene was still in its infancy in NYC. You may be surprised at who is in it!

Here’s a parting mood for ya; enjoy!

This is what happens when we get WordPress mixed up with Castel in Bitburg :-)

Right now, we’re working hard on some new stuff:

  1. New Program: Some new talent to entertain you
  2. New Web Presence: Baby, we are on Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace, and soon we’ll be on Youtube, Flickr, and more places, too
  3. New Faces: We’re looking for some great people to keep Castel parties going from behind our bars!

Stay tuned, folks!
